Getting Beyond Security
I was introduced to a vehicle that enabled my Why to finally come alive. I listened to a woman speak about a business and a vehicle – Network Marketing. I’ll never forget her words. She said, “If you work hard, if you work smart, if you follow a system, you will achieve success.”
She also said that I could achieve these three magical words – time, freedom and wealth. That’s when I saw the possibility that even I could do what I wanted to do, when I wanted to do it and with whom I wanted to do it with. Within seven years of hearing her speak those words of power into my life, I created a very successful business and semi-retired to South Florida.
Yes! I grabbed those words that created the possibility that I could succeed like a drowning man grabbing a life preserver. I said to myself, “I want to empower people. I want to help people realize that they can do whatever they want to do in life.” For the first time in my life, I was able to move beyond the comfort zone of security. I realized that my security of working behind the scenes at the art gallery had allowed my stuttering to control me and my life. Security will make you complacent. It will control you and ultimately destroy you. If you’re secure right now in your job, you could be in the process of demolishing your future success. Let me ask you a question, if you didn’t have to go out and earn money to pay your bills, what would you do? That’s right; if every bill was paid and you had enough money in the bank for the rest of your life, what would you be doing? Take a second and write down your answer. Now, that is your Why! I will come back to that later, but let me tell you what happened when I went home that night from the event. I arrived home to my parent’s house about 11:30pm, and I just started crying. Why? Because I found a way out! I found the actual vehicle that would allow me to achieve my dreams. I could build a business, set myself free and be able to go out and speak to people. I could tell others that it is possible to achieve success, and it is okay to have dreams. That’s the night my life and my world changed. Then, I was introduced to personal development through the classic book, “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. If you don’t have that book, then invest in yourself and go buy it. Personal development and the industry of Network Marketing opened my eyes to opportunities that I never knew existed or were possible for even me to achieve.
I woke up the next morning and was on my way to the gym at 5:30am. As I was driving to my health club I thought to myself, “I truly don’t understand yet how I’m going to do this. I don’t know this business. I don’t know the system. I don’t know anything”, but what I did know was that someone told me I could do it and I was willing to listen to that person. I was willing to be become success-driven and listen to people that could and would help me become successful and achieve my Why. To do that meant leaving the comfortable and complacent nest of security. You will never fly, and you will never become a success maniac if you remain in the nest.

I graduated as an elite business student from an accredited college, but it got me absolutely nowhere. I respect education, but most of the time education only teaches you about a certain subject. It doesn’t train you to achieve success. That is part of what makes my teachings and this book so different. My goal is to train people and motivate them to become successful no matter their level of education, where they came from or any other factor that society uses to determine success. EVERYONE can do it!
As you know, I was a stutterer. But, worse than that, I was labeled a stutterer. People would tell me, “John, just stay with your family. That’s all you’re gonna do. You’ll work for your family. Don’t worry about becoming successful, forget your college degree. You can’t even say your name! Who do you think you are? How can you get a regular job? How can you take your college degree and go out and change the world?” I was labeled by society and destined to fail if I listened to them. If you have been labeled, I want you to tear that label off of yourself right now! A label is a lie. Labels box people into groups. As I wrote in Lesson One, we are not a group. We are individuals. When people called Helen Keller deaf and dumb, they were labeling her as part of a group of handicapped people. As a strong individual with a miracle inside, she blew through that group label like a bullet through a bed sheet. That so-called handicapped lady is one of the most successful people in history.
No one deserves to be labeled no matter the challenges that they face in life. The miracle inside is larger than the label, and inside you are seeds of greatness. The famous and wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are small matters compared to what lies within us.”
THE WINNER’S MINDSET VS. A LOSER’S MINDSET

We all have the ability to make decisions that will determine the ultimate outcome and the achievement of our WHY in life! There is a very thin line between being a Winner or being a Loser. The Olympic Games are a great example of this statement. You could win a Gold Medal by beating your competitor by the tiniest one thousandth of a second! When you compare life to the Olympics, it is the same. You need to always maintain a “Winner’s Mindset” in order to attain your WHY in Life!
The following is a comparison of a Winner’s Mindset vs. a Loser’s Mindset.
Where are you? Better yet, where are the people who are on your Mastermind Team?
W – The winner is always part of the answer;
I – The loser is always part of the problem;
N – The winner always has a program;
N – The loser always has an excuse;
E – The winner says, “Let me do it for you;”
E – The loser says, “That’s not my job;”
R – The winner sees an answer for every problem;
VS. – The loser sees a problem for every answer;
L – The winner sees a green near every sand trap;
O – The loser sees two or three sand traps near every green;
S – The winner says, “It may be difficult, but it’s possible;
E – The loser says, “It may be possible, but it’s too difficult.”
R – BE A WINNER!!!
Now you truly need to make a conscious decision to be a Winner and always maintain a Winner’s mindset in order to win the Gold Medal in YOUR life! Just like Olympian athletes, you need to train EACH AND EVERY DAY CONSISTENTLY to win your Gold Medal! The #1 training method is to continually feed your mind with top-quality mental and motivational nourishment. As you feed your mind, the winner’s mindset will start to flourish.
INCENTIVE

The definition of the word incentive is something that incites or is likely to incite to determination or action. As you are paying the price to live your dream in life, you need to have something to incite you to take action. Basically, you need to have a strong enough “WHY” in order to make it through all you will experience as you build your dream.
As we know 95% of people die with their music still playing in them, because they never had a dream strong enough or large enough to move them through the hurdles, which were thrown their way by every dream stealer that they met as they were paying the price. As you focus on your incentive, you will forge through all of the dream stealing negativity that you will encounter. I still remember when everyone told me –“John, you are crazy, just get a job” and “who do you think you are thinking you can build the largest motivational business ever”. These are just a few negative remarks that I received as I focused on my incentive. I never gave up! I just remained focus on the ultimate outcome as I forged forward.
You need to internalize your incentive and see it everyday. Close your eyes, see it and say to yourself, “I am a successful entrepreneur, I have no debt, I spend quality time with my family.” See it – feel it – feed your spirit every minute knowing you will and can do it! If you can’t SEE your incentive, which is also your “Why”, then who will? No one! You are the only one that has the ability to make your dreams come true and change your life forever!
THE POWER OF A SCOPE

We all know the power of a scope if you need to focus in on a target and hit it. We all need to develop and truly understand the power of the human mind’s scope. All of us have inside of us the potential to be as powerful as the most high-tech laser scope available today. A scope is designed to focus in on a target without getting distracted or losing focus in order to hit its target right on the bull’s eye. Now remember that all mechanical scopes are programmed by human technology and if we can do it for machines, we can do it for ourselves.
As you are progressing each day on your journey to your ultimate outcome in life, you need to stay 110% focused on your target. You need to focus in on your WHY in life and not be distracted by all the other negative noise we all hear each day in this negative world. You are 1000% more advanced in your focus just by reading this article today, because most people stop personal development as soon as their formal education stops. I always say formal education will get you a job, but self-education will enable you to design a life you want to live!
Your personal scope in life can be finely tuned each day based on the people you associate with along with your personal commitment to personal development. As you develop your mind, you will be able to stay focused on your target and hit it right in the bull’s eye. I am a true believer in the daily focusing of your sniper, which is a minimum of 15 minutes of personal development per day. This can be done by listening to audiotapes or by reading written materials, which will empower you and improve your results.
I personally invest two hours each day for my own personal development in life. The outcome of your internal scope in life is ultimately determined by how you fine-tune it each day. You need to ask yourself an honest question, “Am I doing all I can do to hit my target (your WHY) in life by enhancing each and every day the input to my human scope?” If the answer is “no”, then take action now and change your life forever!
